The 10 Best Gay New Year’s Eve Events Coming to New York City

If there was ever a year to say “fuck you” to, it’s 2016.

From the shooting at Pulse to HB2, from the recent presidential election to the deaths of way too many fabulous celebrities, this year was just plain shitty for many of us. So celebrate the new year with a really big bang and an even bigger “FU!”

Well, here are the 10 best gay happenings in Gotham this New Year’s Eve to give you that bang for your buck. If you don’t bring a cutie to kiss at the stroke of midnight with you, pick one up nearby. There’s no better way to start off the new year than with a stranger in your bed the next morning.

1. U-Nite

U-Nite makes its Brooklyn debut in Williamsburg at the brand-new club Schimanski (formerly Verboten). The 12,000-square-foot multi-room venue features an award-winning sound system and an immersive video projection system that wraps around the club’s walls, illuminating the space with cutting-edge visuals. Ring in 2017 with sexy DJ Brett Oosterhaus, plus a major special guest DJ that the boys at U-NITE are keeping a secret. At midnight, toast the new year with complimentary champagne. $39 in advance; $80 at the door. Head here for more info.

2. Wings of Change Gala

Brandon Voss is at it again this New Year’s Eve, gussying up the scene with some pomp and circumstance. His lavish black-tie New Year’s Eve Gala returns for its ninth year, this time at at the Royalton Hotel by Philippe Stark. The event reads, “Guests enjoy a champagne reception and dinner in the penthouse, DJs W Jeremy and Lady Bunny, a living art installation, and a midnight journey through the origin of avian flight.” We have no idea what that last bit means, but we’re intrigued enough to buy a ticket, which start at $125. Head here for more info.

3. Night Riders

The Culture Whore and Rify Royalty are bringing you country realness with Night Riders New Year’s Eve at 1332 Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn. Every queer notable is hosting, with performances by Aquaria, Boy Radio, Slater G. String, Rify Royalty himself and a few more. The fun rages until 7 a.m., so you can get there after the stroke of midnight and still have lots of time to party. Ditch the black tie. For this hoedown, cowboy attire is recommended. $20 at the door. Head here for more info.

4. G Lounge

Say goodbye to G Lounge as we know it, as the favorite Chelsea mainstay is about to close for renovations and possibly forever. They’re celebrating with a closing night fête on New Year’s Eve with host Brita Filter and DJ Earnie Cote. No cover. Head here for more info.

The ball drop will be on the TV screens above the bar, while someone else’s balls will also be dropping in the cage behind the pool table. No cover. Head here for more info.

9. Supernature

The Box on the Lower East Side is known for its off-the-wall burlesque shows and stunts, and it looks like it’s planning some extra craziness this New Year’s Eve. Head here for more info.

10. The Monster

The Monster just won the Glammy Award for Best Club, maybe because it’s one of the only gay nightclubs left in our city. Join them as they usher in the new year with a live performance by the fabulous Ultra Naté and a DJ set by Max Rodriguez. $20 cover at the door. Head here for more info.
