86-Year-Old WW2 Vet Stands Up For Gays

Philip Spooner, 86

Philip Spooner gives us all hope for a better, and more equal, future. The father of four tells the world that he didn’t raise his three straight sons to be any better or more deserving of their rights, benefits and protections under the law than his gay son.

We honestly got choked up to hear Mr. Spooner lecture those listening about why our country entered World War II – to defend the equal rights of all.

When an octogenarian WW2 veteran offers you sage wisdom on what it means to be an American, it’s usually best to listen to what he has to say.

Everybody is supposed to be equal in equality.” Agreed. That’s kind of a critical part, after all.

Thank you, Mr. Spooner!

  • This gentlemen fabulous! He gave this speech up in Maine for the legislature in 2009 where supporters of same-sex marriage out numbered the opponents 4 to 1. After the bill was signed by our previous Governor in 2009 the bill was later petitioned by opponents and went to referendum and rejected before it went into effect. Maine currently has a domestic partnership law since 2004, but still no marriage.

That isn’t to say this video doesn’t have value. I completely think it does, I just wanted to give some context.

  • i teared up.

a lot of the good in the world left when the business men came out the hole. words are not solid anymore, only empty… But this man, he had done something that day, did something great.

I wish he could speak to the North Carolina legislature where a bill against gay rights is at this very moment being considered.  Liberty and Justice for “ALL.” When are we going to get it? In the past it was liberty and justice for all except if you were a slave. Then it was liberty and justice for all except is you were a woman. “Women vote” Why that’s preposterous ! Then it was liberty and justice for all except if you were a “colored” person. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO GET ITt???
