With the recent Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey scandals still on the lips of many, it’s rather easy to overlook individuals who haven’t been victims of sexual assault but are in need nonetheless. Well, one of our all-time favorite rockers has decided to do something about it. Courtney Love and her daughter Frances are encouraging fans through their social media pages to donate clothing, toys and food for the LGBTQ youth of Los Angeles.
In collaboration with the L.A. LGBT Center, the San Fernando Valley LGBT Center and the LAPD’s LGBTQ Working Group, Courtney Love and her daughter are encouraging donations to homeless LGBTQ youth and low-income community members at five locations throughout L.A.
The donation drive will continue through Dec. 13.
Here’s what Courtney Love posted to her Facebook page earlier today:
Can we focus on the other victims in Hollywood that just need a bite to eat and dry socks? Just for a moment at least?…
Among the items people are asked to donate: socks, unwrapped toys, clothes (even if lightly used and clean), canned food and other typical holiday eats.
Love has also encouraged those outside of the Los Angeles area to repost donation info. L.A. has struggled for many years with high numbers of LGBTQ youth being homeless on its streets. On any given night, as Love cites, there are 6,000 homeless teens on L.A. streets, and 40% of them identify as LGBTQ.
In the past, Love has supported charities including the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), Amnesty International, the Elton John AIDS Foundation, GLSEN and the Save the Music Foundation.
We were most recently discussing Love when footage was unearthed of the rocker warning Hollywood actresses about Hollywood sex criminal Harvey Weinstein 12 years ago on the red carpet of Pamela Anderson’s Comedy Central Roast. After TMZ posted video of the red carpet appearance, Courtney Love responded on Twitter by saying, “Although I wasn’t one of his victims, I was eternally banned by CAA for speaking out against Harvey Weinstein.”
