Did Queen Latifah (Finally) Just Come Out?

id=”attachment_9586″ Queen Latifah and Jeanette Jenkins

Look, we’re not in the business of outing people here at UB, but has Queen Latifah ever really even been in? Her relationship with her personal trainer, Jeanette Jenkins, is widely reported to be far more than simply professional. Latifah regularly brings Jenkins as her +1 to events, Jenkins is often referred to as Latifah’s partner, and the two even own a home together.

We think you’d be hardpressed to find more than a couple LGBT people who don’t already assume that the Queen is already out and proud, even though she has never publicly acknowledged what most of the world is already thinking.

Until now?

“ …I just like ladies who have class. Period. And if it’s “T and A” you’re sellin’, that’s fine, as long as that’s what you’re selling. But you don’t have to show everything, you know? You can hold some back and just be yourself and let your personality shine and let your individuality show. To me, that’s sexier. A confident woman is a sexy woman, in my opinion. And I think guys find that to be the same way.”

“You don’t have to show everything; you don’t have to put it all out there to attract a guy. Because what kind of guy are you gonna attract? What is he really looking for? If you wanna be a booty call, I guess you can throw it all out there. (laughs) But if you’re looking for a relationship with someone who respects you and respects things other than your body — your mind, your spirit, your personality, your smile — then you have to kind of exude that more so than just yo’ booty and yo’ tithes [sic].”

Is QL opening up about being a lesbian? Is she just referring to the types of strong portrayals of women she prefers in the media? What’s going on in this interview?

  • She’s like the Ricky Martin of hip hop.

  • She’s making a comment that any straight woman would make. I read it as the opinion of a role model or someone in the industry. She’s just telling young women that they can be sexy AND respected, and that they don’t have to be or dress promiscuous to land a man.

I think you’re only reading between the lines because we all know that she’s gay.

  • You have to admit she’ll make a great lesbian with that super-fast tongue of hers ;o)

Personally I think it’s really no one else’s business. Is everyone expecting her to hold some kind of press conference to announce she’s gay to a bunch of people she doesn’t know?
I’m sure she came out to her family and friends, and I’m sure to her that is enough.

If she *is* gay, I hope she comes out!  I have a lezzie thing for her. 😉

  • Shanna Montana

    I don’t think she’ll ever come out

  • Joey Lopez

all the gay men just cringed 😉 hehe j/k LOL

I don’t see the coming out…now if she said she liked tithes, that would be another thing.

  • I understand it’s not anyone else’s business who’s gay and whatnot…it’s just nice to feel like your not alone…and if she is a lesbian…there are a lot of people out there that might just feel a little less lonely..someone like Queen Latifah can do a lot of the gay/lesbian community and hiding it if she is can make it seem like she’s ashamed…but everyone has their right to be in the closet.

agreed. sexuality shouldn’t measure who a person is and it doesn’t. it depresses me when you see articles on US magazine and stuff like “hollywood, who’s gay and who isn’t?” to me…who cares?
