Coca-Cola Is Giving Diet Coke a Makeover (Whether You Like It or Not)

Be first to like this.

As press releases often do, the release unveiled by Coca-Cola earlier this month about its impending Diet Coke makeover is full of some laughably cheesy language:

Diet Coke — the same crisp, iconic taste launched in 1982 O.G. Diet Coke — isn’t changing. (You don’t mess with a good thing.)

But the Diet Coke you think you know is history. We’re re-launching with a bold new look, a fresh attitude, and four delicious new flavors, which join the iconic original.

This 2018 Diet Coke makeover is sure to leave many soda-drinkers scratching their heads. We can already hear Sucralose fiends everywhere crying out: whyyyyyyyyy?!?

Not only are the cans themselves getting an “upgrade” in this Diet Coke makeover (they’re turning into thinner, streamlined cylinders of carbonated chemicals) but you’re getting four flavors of Diet Coke you never knew you wanted:

Diet Coke Ginger Lime (which is replacing “Diet Coke with Lime”)

Diet Coke Feisty Cherry (which is replacing “Diet Cherry Coke”)

Diet Coke Zesty Blood Orange

Diet Coke Twisted Mango

It should be noted that the Diet Coke you drink today isn’t going anywhere. And you’ll still be able to find it in 12-packs of the cans that are standard in the soft drink market. The new cans will be available everywhere sodas are sold as single cans and as eight-packs.

As for why we’re being treated to this Diet Coke makeover, you can blame Millennials.

“Millennials are now thirstier than ever for adventures and new experiences, and we want to be right by their side,” says Rafael Acevedo, Coca-Cola North America’s group director for Diet Coke. “We’re contemporizing the Diet Coke brand and portfolio with sleek packaging and new flavors that are appealing to new audiences.”

What do you think of the Diet Coke makeover? Are you gonna try the brand-new flavors? Sound off in the comments.
