We’re Currently Swooning Over ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7’s Hunky New Actor

Editor’s note: The below story discusses minor plot points from Game of Thrones seasons 6 and 7.

Last night’s Aug. 6 episode of HBO’s Game of Thrones wasn’t our first introduction to the character named Dickon Tarly, but we won’t shame you in the streets if you hadn’t realized it.

Yes, we met Dickon — brother of our favorite introverted member of the Night’s Watch and current Grand Maester-in-training, Samwell Tarly — back in Season 6, during a scene in which Samwell’s family sat around the dinner table and made fun of Sam’s claims that he’d killed a White Walker. His brother, Dickon, played by Freddie Stroma, was — well, he was a total dickon.

But as Game of Thrones has had to do a few times thus far, Dickon Tarly is now played by a different actor altogether. And we aren’t complaining.

Even still, we met this ‘new version’ of Dickon Tarly (now played by tall drink of water Tom Hopper) not on last night’s episode but in Episode 2 of the current seventh season, during a brief conversation between Jaime Lannister, Randyll Tarly (Samwell’s father) and Dickon.

Remember this?

But it wasn’t until last night when our eyes and ears truly perked up, and we couldn’t help but ask, Who is this god of a man, and where did he come from?? We aren’t sure why it took us until this latest episode, but maybe it had to do with seeing him on horseback? Either way, we’re smitten.

Tom Hopper is a 32-year-old British actor who apparently has a penchant for period action-dramas. Before GoT he appeared on Black Sails and Merlin. Last night he got his largest amount of screen time yet, though we don’t want to spoil the ep if you haven’t seen it just yet.

Oh, and as for Freddie Stroma, the first actor to portray Dickon Tarly? It turns out that not longer his first appearance on Game of Thrones aired, he announced he wouldn’t be returning for Season 7. There were scheduling conflicts between GoT and another show he’d signed up for, Time After Time. That show, unfortunately, has since been canceled. And that’s gotta sting.

Now check out these amazing images of a pre-Game of Thrones Dickon Tarly:
