Here’s the Unbelievably True Story of the Gay Porn Star Who Pretended to Be an Islamic Terrorist

The trial has begun for Roque M., a 52-year-old former German intelligence agent accused of treason. Roque allegedly offered information to assist a terrorist attack on the German intelligence agency where he worked. The accused man previously performed in gay porn, though his gay porn past is unrelated to the criminal charges facing him.

German intelligence agents arrested Roque in November 2016 after discovering him in a chat room known to be popular with Islamic militants. He had offered others information to help stage an attack on his place of employment, Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV).

Fellow agents lured him into a private chat and soon learned enough information to identify and arrest him. When they searched his chatroom screename, they found he had used the same alias while performing in gay porn as recently as 2011.

In addition to appearing in gay porn, Roque was married to a woman, had four kids and had secretly converted to Islam in 2014. He began working for the German intelligence agency in April 2016.

Although he had undergone vetting procedures before being hired, his online aliases allowed him to temporarily evade detection. Roque offered at one point to meet one of his chat room associates at a local gym but he never actually went through with the meeting.

In his defense, Roque claims that the entire thing was merely a weird amusement. “[He] said he grew bored at the weekends while watching over his disabled son at home, and so pretended to be an online Islamist,” says the International Business Times.

A senior official where Roque M. worked, told The Washington Post that he may have been mentally ill or had multiple personalities.

Despite his trial being scheduled to run for the next few days, thus far prosecutors have not yet uncovered any information linking Roque to an actual terrorist plot.
