Demand justice for Carol Anne and Laura Stutte

Oh my God. Carol Anne and Laura Stutte, a lesbian couple living in Tennessee are living out many of our worst nightmares. The two faced relentless harassment from a homophobic neighbor who made allusions to killing the two women and outright threatened to burn their house down before going ahead and actually doing it.

While the happy couple was celebrating their anniversary out of town, someone burned their house to the ground and spray painted the word “QUEERS” on their garage, the only building left standing on their property. Local police have refused to charge the neighbor who all but admitted to being responsible for the act with any crime, and officials have not even ruled the case as arson despite eyewitness reports that someone blew up their house.

Further complicating matters, their insurance company has refused to pay the lesbian couple any money for their loss, despite the fact that the two were well insured. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?

A video released by Change.org reports:

Returning from Nashville, where Carol Anne and Laura celebrated their anniversary, they found a pile of rubble where there dream home once stood.

Despite numerous police reports documenting a neighbor that threatened to burn down their home, and who repeatedly told them, “the only thing better than one dead queer is two dead queers,” no arrests have been made.

The Stutte home had no gas service and was all electric. Even with witness reports of two explosions and a fireball that could be seen above the treeline, that all water hoses on the property had been cut, and that “QUEER” had been painted on their garage, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the FBI have yet to rule the fire as an arson.

What is even more disturbing is that the Stutte’s insurance company, American National Property and Casualty, has yet to pay a dime to the Stutte family even though they had purchased coverage to provide them habitation and living expenses in the case of such a loss.

Help the Stutte family. Don’t do business with American National property and Casualty, which is headquartered in Springfield, MO.

We seriously choked up watching this video. The line about God hating fags, the first image of the destruction after seeing so many idyllic photos of their beautiful home, the frustration at the obvious homophobia these women are facing from neighbors and police – it’s all just too much. This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Please, please, one thousand times please, join us in signing the petition below demanding that American National Property and Casualty fulfill their contractual obligation to pay these women their insurance money. Please share this information with your friends and ask them to join us in spreading this story. It’s honestly the least we can all do here.

We’re disgusted, confused, and in disbelief. How could this happen? Why is something like this happening in our country? How could someone hate these women so much? We’re shocked.
***Update. Their insurance company has payed the Stutte family $610 for their immense loss. This figure is insulting.

  • so sad…..I signed and so will all my friends i pray that you get your dream home back and get that homophobic prick in jail.

Is there any kind of trust fund or donation arrangement set up for them?

  • I think the person next door should be charged with a hate crime. I don’t know what so called church the neighbor goes to but the ones that I have attended say God loves everyone ,and it’s not up to us to judge anyone. If it had been a treat to anyone else their behinds would have been jail so fast their heads would spin. If a black man had made the treat you can only image what would have happen to him. By the way I am white.

  • Pathetic.

  • I try to love everyone. That’s just how I am. It’s basically automatic. But seriously, how in the hell can I love someone who does this kind of shit? Hateful people will get theirs in the end.. far worse than this couple got. My heart goes out to both of you, Carol Ann and Laura.

  • Mariah Ragan

This is BULL SHIT. Almost hard to believe that there can be such hate in this world.

  • Calynn Torres

Signed. I wish I could E-mail those two a hug! I cannot believe this actually happened, well, okay, I can. I wish I couldn’t.

I will be the first one to admitt that I have grown up in a strict catholic family. We are told that being gay is wrong and they will be going to hell. Then they turn around and tell us that it is not our place to judge. So you know what? I don’t judge. Gays and Lesbians are just like us. They just don’t have relationships like us. They all pay taxes and pay bill just like the rest of us. Then why are they treated differently. Yes I have signed the pettion. I have had really good friends and managers in the past that have treated me like gold that are lesbian and gay. I hope the people that did this to these poor women suffer for what they have done and I hope they rot in hell for what they did.

This makes me feel ill. I can’t take all this hate, every time if seems like we are taking steps in the right direction something like this pulls us back. They should also be petitioning and calling the police and FBI in this town. We need to make them do something.

This is not acceptable anywhere, nowhere. Protest loudly, end ignorance.

  • Thanks for helping spread this story. The more this message spreads the more effect it will have.

  • Truly makes me SICK how do such hateful people live with themselves, seriously….

  • I am not gay, but I am human and so are these women and they deserve to be treated as such. Good luck to the Stutte family.

  • Rick Vaughn

I hope the neighbor comes home to find “IGNORANT REDNECK MORON” and “NAZI TRASH” spraypainted all over his property.

Adding hate to hate only creates war, not acceptance and tolerance.

  • this is ridiculous and heartbreaking

  • I’m not in America, nor am I affected by this insurance company.

    I signed anyway.

A happy relationship is not a privilege – it’s a right…. And last time I checked, homosexual couples usually end up actually having happier relationships than heterosexual couples. Some people just make the right decisions where others make wrong decisions.
Other people are just pissy that they are the latter, and are reminded of that when they see happy couples – such as this lesbian couple.

    That f**king neighbour..
