After Comparing Drag to Blackface, Did This ‘Big Brother’ Celeb Lie About Her Drag Queen Phobia?

There has already been quite a lot of drama on this season of Celebrity Big Brother, and most of the drama has involved trans newscaster India Willoughby

One of the first spats that happened involved another houseguest repeatedly misgendering her — we totally get that. (It’s disrespectful and transphobic.) But since then, India Willoughby has claimed she has a phobia of drag queens after Courtney Act made over one of their straight houseguests as a drag queen for the day.

Willoughby said: “It did [upset me]. Why? I’m a woman, not what [he thinks is] a woman! Not a man. A man walked into the room in a dress, and everyone laughed at it.”

“I’ve got something called gender dysphoria, which you can only resolve with medical attention. Someone coming in dressed that way, freaks me out.”

Willoughby also compared drag to blackface, which was a pretty ridiculous assertion unto itself. She said:

Over the years, [I’ve had to experience] a lot of laughter and I know it’s not meant that way, that the people who perform drag don’t do it intentionally like in the old days and the black and white minstrels used to put on a show and everyone would laugh and cheer and it was the top-rated show in the country. But you know, obviously, black people would find that offensive. I just want to make it apparent why I got upset.

Well, photos she shared on Twitter last year show her gleefully posing with drag queens. The pics were brought to the surface by fans calling out her hypocrisy.

The photos were taken at an LGBT pride event with some drag queens from the collective Haus of Dench. They also contradicted Willoughby’s claims that she had never been to a Pride event before.

Sharing screenshots of the photos, one CBB viewer tweeted: ”It’s amazing how India has an incredible phobia of drag queens. I’ll just leave these here…make of it what you will…#cbb #cbbuk.”

Maybe we can’t take much of anything Willoughby says too seriously. She revealed on the show this week that she had a vivid dream that she was abducted by “martians” and then woke up with scars on her back. She said, “I was abducted by aliens, seriously.”
