Lana Del Rey Just Posted a Pic That’s Leaving Us Really Freaking Confused

UPDATED: The artist who edited the image Del Rey posted reached out to us. He created the image in 2013, and shared it on his popular Tumblr. You can also follow him on Instagram here.

We’re really confused. Lana Del Rey just posted a pic of herself with Amy Winehouse. Wait, what? This Lana Del Rey Amy Winehouse photo has us scratching our heads.

Del Rey posted a pic on Instagram that shows her driving a car with Winehouse in the passenger seat. As of press time, the captionless photo has nearly 800,000 likes and 17,000 comments. Many fans applauded the photo, thanking Del Rey for sharing the pic. One fan writes, “Thank you Lana for sharing such a beautiful memory with us!”

But is the photo real?

After some research, we found that Del Rey speaks of Winehouse as an important influence on her music, but doesn’t mention the two were friends.

“I believe in Amy Winehouse,” Del Rey said in a 2013 interview. “I know she’s not with us anymore, but I believe she was who she was, and in that way she got it right.”

During an interview in 2014, Del Rey was famously quoted as telling reporter Tim Jonze “I wish I was dead already” after discussing some of her music icons, including Winehouse and Kurt Cobain. The quote was met with plenty of scorn online, but Del Rey explained later that it was taken out of context.

A different photo surfaced a few years ago of the two together while out and about, but that photo has since been debunked as photoshopped.

We’re pretty sure this new photo is photoshopped as well, and is perhaps a way for Del Rey to pay tribute to one of her favorite musical inspirations.

Not everybody is a fan of the Lana Del Rey Amy Winehouse photo, though. One commenter on Del Rey’s Instagram writes, “No, it’s not fucking real. It’s Liiza Grant [Del Rey’s real name is Lizzy Grant] photoshopping herself with Amy as though they were Paris and Nicole out on the town in 2006. It’s disrespectful.”

The one at the bottom is 100pc fake.

They are BOTH 100% FAKE. Look at the super sharp profile of Lana’s and Amy’s noses. Then look at the edges of ALL OTHER lines in the photo: The ARM in front of the steering wheel, which is CLOSER than Lana’s nose, and the window edge of the door, which is FARTHER from the camera. BOTH are indistinct edges, showing a somewhat “fuzzy,” thick edge line, compared to BOTH women’s noses, which are knife-edge sharp (because fuzzy edged noses look wonky at first glance – this way, your mind has already semi-accepted what it sees in this photo…) and more visually prominent.
