Master Troll Asks Whether Donald Trump Donated Money to NAMBLA

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has probably never donated to the North American Man-Boy Love Association (NAMBLA), but a master troll tied the racist politician to the pedophiliac group by getting the accusation to trend on Google this weekend.

The troll, known as J. Peterman, did it by creating an auto-moderator, basically a computer program that automatically posted a pre-set message whenever someone mentioned “tax returns” in an anti-Trump discussion board; the board (or sub-reddit) is called “EnoughTrumpSpam” — here’s what the message said:

“Speaking of tax returns, did you hear Donald Trump is refusing to release them because Donald Trump has donated to NAMBLA? That’s what all the best sources, the most tremendous sources are saying, and if they’re all saying that Donald Trump donated to NAMBLA, well, I can see why Donald Trump would want to cover up his donations to NAMBLA. I’m not claiming that Donald Trump donates to NAMBLA, but that’s what these excellent sources are alleging, that Donald Trump does indeed donate to NAMBLA.”

As a result, people began posting stories about Trump and NAMBLA on Buzzfeed community news posts and creating fake Fox News websites about it.

Peterman and the sub-reddit moderator who helped him launch the bot (a man named Faiz) both say that the real goal of the campaign is to get the association trending on Google (similarly to how gay activist Dan Savage linked anti-gay politician Rick Santorum’s name to “the frothy mix of lube and feces that is sometimes the by-product of anal sex”).

Linking Trump to the non-existent accusations give Trump a taste of his own medicine. After all, Trump created similar non-troversies in the past by publicly questioning Obama’s American citizenship and support of terrorists despite there being no evidence to support either claim. For instance, in 2012, when right wing politicians demanded that Obama release his birth certificate, Trump said:

“A lot of people are questioning [Barack Obama’s] birth certificate. They’re questioning the authenticity of his birth certificate. I’ve been known as being a very smart guy for a long time. I don’t consider myself birther or not birther, but there are some major questions here and the press doesn’t wanna cover it. The press just refuses to cover it. Now if that were somebody else, they would be covering it, and they’d be throwing people out of office. But they don’t want to cover it… So it’s interesting. Maybe that’s right, maybe that’s wrong, but I don’t know why he doesn’t he release his records. Why doesn’t he release [them]?”

As you may know, Trump has refused to release his tax returns, something that most modern U.S. presidential candidates do in order to reveal details about how they make money, invest money overseas and donate to different causes. Faiz, the sub-moderator who helped launch the campaign, told The Daily Beast that their ultimate goal is a response from Trump:

“As for the campaign responding, I think that would be the ultimate prize. I don’t think he will, but Trump gets set off pretty easily so I can dream. The only logical conclusion would really be Trump releasing his tax returns but he would never do that because he’s hiding donations to NAMBLA. That’s what I’ve heard from some very smart people anyway.”
