5 Trends That Were All the Rage at Milan Men’s Fashion Week

Milan stayed true to the base DNA of menswear for its Spring/Summer 2018 season. Unlike London fashion week, which focused on experimental trends, designers here wowed us with collections that send a cohesive message about masculinity. With innovative ideas and high-tech fabrics, Milan showed us a fashion-forward season with an emphasis on wearable clothes.

High-profile designers like Prada and Fendi presented a grown-up collection focusing on the athleisure trend. New designers like Christian Pellizzari showed us the playful and fun side of menswear. Vibrant colors and wild prints continued to dominate the looks in Milan men’s fashion week. But, as always, a few interesting  trends emerged from this season’s shows.

5 Milan Men’s Fashion Trends You Won’t Want to Miss:

High-Waist Trousers

Goodbye, low-waist pants. Hello, high-waist trousers. It’s time to trade in your hipster look and update it with a grown-up outfit. Both Prada and Fendi re-worked this shape giving a sartorial feel to the trousers. Prada presented sporty high-waist pants with velcro cuffs and details in different techno fabrics. Fendi also sent models in tailor-made pants that had an elegant feel. If you have a long torso, this style of the pant hangs beautifully on your body.

The New Beach Vibe

This season, casual beach lifestyle inspired the designers, and they sent out clothes reflected this mood. Dsquared2 presented a collection with gorgeous plumeria prints on tee shirts, shorts, bomber jackets and pants. Christian Pellizzari focused his Spring/Summer collection with beach-ready clothes. He sent out models in flowy, relaxed outfits adorned with summery prints.

Knee-High Socks

Remember the days when we paired white tube socks with our sneakers? Designers embraced this old-school look and sent out guys in a variety of different knee-high socks for an athletic look. Both Moncler Gamme Bleu and MSGM showed us their interpretations of the knee-high sock in their collections. Marcelo Burlon, a new designer, stayed true to this look and sent out muscular guys in white tube socks in his ultra-masculine streetwear. Even Prada introduced its version of must-have knee-high socks this season. Prada’s socks come in different shades with their triangle logo embossed on the top.

Lush Cardigans

Donatella Versace showed a softer side of her men’s collection with her signature Medusa prints. However, she also surprised the audience by giving them a rich cardigan set with a crown symbol. The classic house of Salvatore Ferragamo also presented this classic style with a twist. This luxe cable knit cardigan is woven with color blocking technique and creating an ombre effect.

Clutch Bags

Totes, messenger bags, and backpacks are staples of men’s accessories. For the past few seasons, we started to notice that clutch bags are also becoming an important style of men’s handbags. Major designers all showed a version of the clutch bag in different sizes, materials, and details. Maybe it’s time to add a clutch bag to your shopping list.
