Watch Paramore’s Hayley Williams Shut Down a Homophobic Former Bandmate on Twitter

The frontwoman of alt-rock group Paramore recently took a stand against homophobia coming from a former bandmate on Twitter, and the Hayley Williams gay tweet at issue has since gone viral due to its genuine, loving support of the LGBTQ community.

“There’s a reason there are only 3 people left in Paramore,” reads the Hayley Williams gay tweet. “Paramore do not condone religiously/politically dogmatic beliefs which leave our LGBTQ+ friends, fans, & family feeling abandoned and hopeless.”

She went on to say: “If that doesn’t jive with you, well, feel free to go to where all past members of Paramore have gone which is literally anywhere else but Paramore. To Paramore’s LGBTQ+ family (and @ColormeBrian I am talkin straight to you) you are full of love and you are loved.”

(@ColormeBrian refers to Brian J O’Connor, her hair and makeup artist and business partner.)

Though Hayley didn’t name any names, this seems to be a stand against former bandmate Josh Farro, who used to be the guitarist and backup vocalist for the group before leaving in 2010. After screenshots of his vile beliefs came out, fans were understandably upset.

Check out this comment from former bandmate Josh Farro, which is believed to be what the Hayley Williams gay tweet was referencing:

Josh’s jumbled, nonsensical comment seems to say that homosexuality is a perversion just like pedophilia, that the two are comparable, and also something about brainwashing people. I guess I’m just confused because if I were a repulsive bigot with no career to speak of, I wouldn’t make it so obvious to everyone that I were a repulsive bigot with no career to speak of.

In contrast, Hayley Williams, who was an absolute, undeniable staple of 2000s alternative culture, continues to be a badass. Her fans agree:

“Queen Hayley said gay rights.”

“There are few strangers I love more than I love Hayley Williams.”

“She just dug this man’s grave without even saying his name.”

As for Josh Farro … his Wikipedia entry has already been edited accordingly: “In 2020, Farro made a post on his facebook page comparing pedophilia and homosexuality, leading Hayley Williams to claim that his homophobia was a cause for his departure from the group.”

What are your thoughts on the Hayley Williams gay tweet? Doesn’t this make you want to listen to Paramore today?
