In Bold Campaign for PETA, Trans Models Benjamin Melzer and Loiza Lamers Get Naked

Benjamin Melzer and Loiza Lamers are two extremely successful models. They are now the first transgender models ever to get naked for an international “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” PETA campaign.

Lamers and Melzer appear together in a fearless new PETA campaign proclaiming, “Transform Your Wardrobe – Don’t Wear Fur.” The ad featuring the butt naked models is the latest edition of PETA’s iconic “I’d Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” campaign. The ad was shot by fashion photographer Ray Depatti. This is the first time in history that two transgender models have been in a PETA campaign and it is also a major statement for the LGBTQ community.

The isn’t the first time the duo have worked together. Diesel — the European label known for its industrial-chic designs and popular denim line — picked the pair to be the faces of its collection with German clothing line About You.

Lamers became international news when she became the first transgender person in the world to win Top Model in Holland. Melzer was the first transgender man in the world to be featured on the cover of Men’s Health Magazine (their European edition, of course).

“Wearing the pelt of a tormented animal who was electrocuted, beaten, drowned, or skinned alive is creepy and cruel,” says Lamers. “There are so many fur-free clothing options available now that it’s easy to have a killer look without killing animals.”

Melzer adds: “Fur has no place in anyone’s wardrobe, and we encourage all compassionate people to leave it where it belongs: on animals.”

“It means everything,” Melzer said in an interview. “How can we as members of the LGBTQ community want the world to acknowledge and respect us but stand by and let such a hurtful, inhumane practice in our industry continue without speaking out? That would make us hypocrites. When you really think about it, the trans community and PETA have a lot of the same goals. Love and respect should be for all. It’s that simple.”

I wonder how many animals had to be put to death at their kill shelters so they could pay for this fashion forward add. I hope it gets a lot of social media likes, cause that is all it is good for.
