This Gay Anthem Inspired Taylor Swift’s New Track ‘Look What You Made Me Do’

Everyone is buzzing about Taylor Swift’s new song “Look What You Made Me Do” from her upcoming album Reputation.  One of the topics on the top of everyone’s mind is that the song sounds very similar to another song — a song that happens to be a gay anthem by Right Said Fred.

Twitter took off saying Swift ripped off club banger “I’m Too Sexy” by British-based Right Said Fred, but the group is actually credited on the track. And the band has since spoken out about loving the final product.

Right Said Fred was formed by brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass in 1989. Guitarist Rob Manzoli joined the duo in 1990.

Richard came out as bisexual early on in his career in 1991. Richard’s long-term partner, from the early 1980s until the early 2000s, was Stuart Pantry, a BBC makeup artist. In April 2007, Richard said to the Metro, “My last relationship was with a girl, so I am on the cusp. I have never described myself as completely gay.”

Richard has also said he appreciates “pretty guys who look like girls and girls who look like pretty guys.”

In 2007, during a gay rights rally in Red Square, Moscow commemorated the 14th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality in Russia, and Richard and Fred Fairbrass were assaulted by members of a counter demonstration staged by ultra-nationalists. Richard sustained a cut under his eye.

Since Taylor Swift’s new single “Look What You Made Me Do” dropped late Thursday evening, Twitter instantly noticed the connection, as the chorus of her track follows the same rhythmic pattern of the line “I’m too sexy for my shirt.”

Fred and Richard Fairbrass and Rob Manzoli are given songwriting credits on the track, alongside Swift and Jack Antonoff.

The brothers reacted on Twitter just as the song debuted, writing “Thank you @taylorswift13 what a marvellous reinvention!”

No word yet on what Kanye West, Kim Kardashian or Katy Perry have to say, as many speculate the song is a response to the 27-year-old singer’s beef with all of them.

Nicki Minaj, however, did weigh in with this:
