You’re reading an article from our Gay Guide to the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics! You can see the rest of guide articles here.

As the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics approach, you’re going to need a place to stay. We’ve found an array of hotels and guest houses for different tastes and price ranges. We also chose hotels known for their helpful and courteous staffs. But make sure to request a room with an ocean view (where you can) — you won’t regret it!

Hilton Barra Rio de Janeiro – The gay-supportive hotel chain offers a strong all-around option with reasonable pricing, nice rooms, a gym, breakfast and happy hour snacks. It’s a 15-minute walk from the Olympic village and since it’s located a little further from the main beaches, it provides a hideaway from the tourists.

Belmond Copacabana Palace – A high-end hotel with big rooms, a beautiful pool, a first-rate staff and breathtaking views of the ocean and city. Pro-tip: paying extra can snag you an upper-floor suite in the main building overlooking the pool or ocean.

Sofitel Rio de Janeiro Copacabana – Located between the city’s two most popular gay beaches, the location can’t be beat! Light sleepers, be aware that nearby nightclub gets loud on weekends.

Golden Tulip Ipanema Plaza Hotel – An affordable option, the friendly staff and homey rooms give it a familiar feel. Their rooftop pool, pastilla breakfast buffet and Asian restaurant (Opium) gets rave reviews. Take advantage of their free beach umbrellas/chairs/towels rentals.

JW Marriott Hotel Rio de Janeiro – With a popular location right on Copacabana Beach, this hotel puts you in the center of the action, and also has a nice rooftop pool and bar when you need a breather.

Casa Cool Beans B&B – Though its hilly location is a little ways from the beach and city center, all the rooms in this gay-owned and operated guesthouse have private baths, A/C, free WiFi, and the benefit of its knowledgeable and accommodating staff. It also has private garden areas and a pool for relaxing.
