These Young Russian Cadets Are Under Investigation for Making a Low-Rent Twerking Video

Young cadets from Russia’s Ulyanovsk Institute of Civil Aviation (UIGA) are being investigated for violating the student code of conduct after participating in an eye-popping, homoerotic music video. The video — set to Benny Benassi’s 2002 electro-house hit “Satisfaction” — shows one cadet repeatedly deep throating a banana while others dance, shake their rumps and thrust their bulges in nothing more than underwear, belt straps, neckties and cadet caps. The Russian cadets now face possible expulsion for their participation.

The video (below), which appeared on YouTube earlier today, shows a handful of students gyrating, seductively posing around their dormitory, pretending to do chores and generally performing like a low-budget Russian schoolboy version of Magic Mike.

Peter Timofeev Bugaev, head of the UIGA’s organizational and educational department, said (translated from Russian):

I honestly do not want to give a comment to this disgusting behavior of students. To be honest, I’ve sit and digested what I saw. Now we have to deal with this matter, all trying to evaluate both inside and outside the school. Of course, all this is very ugly. I have over 20 years of work, and this is the first time on my practice. Such resentment. The people are so much invested, and they act as leaders.

The people he refers to are perhaps the academy’s teachers and administrators.

Russia has a law forbidding gay propaganda, and while this intensely homoerotic video could probably qualify as such, it’s worth reiterating that the students are under investigation for disrespecting the student code of conduct and their military uniform rather than for making a homoerotic video.

Similarly, the cadet video subversively flies in the face of macho military and nationalist stereotypes while also reinforcing the homoerotic rituals commonly used to bond military men.
