In another case of Gotcha, the chair of the Texas College Republicans, resigned his post this weekend after a video surfaced of him using the word “fags” to describe the opponents of fellow College Republicans candidate Alex Schriver.
ARVE Error: Element ID could not be build, please report this bug.
Charlie McCaslin was only elected two months ago as state CR chair, and Alex Schriver is currently the vice president of the national organization. In the video, McCaslin is toasting the success of candidate Schriver. He speaks about “getting hammered,” having sex with a girl on a desk and then calls Schriver’s opponents “nerds” and “fags.” And then, right after McCaslin drops the f bomb, Schriver seems unbothered: “To Charlie,” he is heard cheering at the end of the video.
Of course, while McCaslin has resigned, Schriver is left with cake on his face. He insists he did not condone the words, and regrets putting himself in a position that “some could incorrectly interpret” as “supportive” of McCaslin’s words. Well, Mr. Alex Schriver, yes we do think that you putting yourself in that position is equivalent to condoning his words! You shouldn’t have been so stupid, and should realize that you are the sum of the people you hang out with!
Here’s McCaslin’s resignation letter:
I humbly submit my resignation as Chairman of Texas College Republicans. I cannot continue my work for the party in this capacity. The mistakes I have made have put my colleagues, friends, and school in harm’s way and they do not deserve to be part of such a bitter cycle. My friends in Texas College Republicans are my family and I care about them the most. The only way they can fight for our cause is with my resignation.
I have a committed the last year of my life to the betterment of Texas College Republicans. This has been the experience of a lifetime, in that I have strove not only to be effective but to always do the right thing. In this instance, my actions were wrong. My hope is that through my resignation, we may move forward in working for the Republican cause. The Republican Party is the best hope for a brighter future in America. The cause of freedom will only be upheld if we come together and fight. That way the hope will live on and the dream will never die.
God Bless America and God Bless Texas,
Charles Taylor McCaslin
Schriver: You’re letting him take the fall, and we are sure you are probably just thinking “better him than me.” Whatever, dude: You stood by as McCaslin went about his juvenile toast, degrading women and gays in one fell swoop.
The best part? McCaslin is heard to say “character counts” in the video. It’s a good thing we can rely on the College Republicans for their robust and responsible character! Ha.
