For ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ the Hero Chopped Off His Luscious Locks, and We’re Loving It

This post is also available in: Spanish

You read that right — when you head into theaters on Nov. 3 to see the third installment of Marvel Studios’ Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok, you won’t spy those luscious blonde locks that your favorite Asgardian comic book star has sported since 1962. The upcoming film is directed by Taika Waititi and stars Chris Hemsworth as the hammer-wielding hero; a nearly unrecognizable Cate Blanchett as the film’s villain, Hela; and Mark Ruffalo, back as Thor’s Avengers teammate The Hulk.

On the haircut, Hemsworth told Entertainment Weekly, “It was nice not to have to sit in the makeup chair for that hour each morning. It felt like a rebirth for me as the actor but also as the character.”

In Ragnarok, a word alluding to ‘the apocalypse’ in Norse mythology, Thor finds himself stranded on a desolate planet where he’s forced to compete as a gladiator (hopefully topless).

Also making an entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ragnarok is Jeff Goldblum, who is set to play The Grandmaster. Those familiar with the comics know that Goldblum’s character — an ageless Elder of the Universe who’s obsessed with games of skill and chance — is actually the brother of The Collector, who was portrayed by Benicio Del Toro in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Blanchett — who, we can’t say this enough, is unrecognizable and hot as hell — plays the Goddess of Death, who is unleashed from a prison of sorts and ain’t happy. She tells EW, “She’s been locked away for millennia getting more and more cross, and then, with a mistake, she gets unleashed and she ain’t getting back in that box.”

Blanchett reportedly learned the Brazilian martial art form capoeira for the role.

November can’t come soon enough, as we can’t wait to see Hemsworth’s Thor and Blanchett’s Hela face-off!
