Tires Slashed on 30 Chicago Pride Floats

The show must go on.

Chuck Huser, owner of long-time Pride float provider Assocated Attractions at 4834 S. Halsted on Chicago’s South Side, said the floats were fine when he left 8 p.m. Saturday night, but when he returned 5 a.m. Sunday to start preparation for drivers to depart, he found two tires punctured each on more than 30 floats.

“This is catastrophic,” he told Windy City Times at 8 a.m. June 26. “This has never happened before, and we have been doing this since 1989.”

“They didn’t want these folks to go out,” Huser said. He added that he has no disgruntled employees or customers, and that most of his workers have been with him more than 20 years.

Huser was thankfully able to find an open tire shop Sunday morning able to replace most of the vandalized tires. And thanks to a little moving and shaking in the lineup, there were no noticeable delays in the parade.

Still, Huser has filed a police report, and the investigation is being conducted with hate crime charges in mind.

Let’s hope they catch the jerk(s) who tried to rain on Chicago’s parade.

  • Boystown last night was filled with nothing more than thugs. Blocking traffic, robbing people, attacking those who walk past, jumping on cars. Mob attacks through the night. When is the city of chicago going to do something about crime ridden halsted? It was a nightmare last night! You couldn’t hear the music from the clubs, just the police and the sirens. Truly sad..

  • Mayor daily did that years ago, and it only got bad within the last year, not when they shut the public housing. It all started in chicago when the center on halsted opened up. They migrate from the west and south sides to boystown and cause issues.

There were delays, there was a break between floats so big that people thought the parade was over!

Well, Chicago went to hell when Pres. Clinton evicted all the gang-banging criminals out of public housing complexes and turned them loose on the entire city. At least before, the street trash was all located within the same limited area.

  • I want to be able to commend Chuck Huser for not only his quick thinking but keeping his cool and not allowing what was so certainly wanted by these Thugs. They wanted nothing more than him to roll over so to speak and give in to Hatred that is Long since out of Date. Him getting these floats back into the Parade quickly and without letting them get to him is the Best Weapon he could have used. Keep it up!!! The Show must go on and you have made so many people see, you cant keep a Good Man Down!!! Thanks Again!! The Nutz!
