X-Men: First Class Trailer!

Beast...sort of.

Hated and feared for being born different than the rest of humanity. Sound familiar? The X-Men: First Class trailer debuted online today.

Just one problem: It looks awful. First Class is clearly not based on the comic book that it takes its name from. That story is a retelling of Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, Iceman, and Angel’s earliest adventures set in modern times while under the tutelage of Professor Charles Xavier. Think XBox, iPods, Frappuccinos.

This is something entirely different. We recognize Emma Frost, Moira McTaggert, Pixie, and Beast in his cat-form. None of these characters (with the exception of maybe Moira) should be here. We’ll definitely see the film, but it’s disappointing to see FOX get so wrong what Marvel has gotten so right for their properties produced independently under their own studio. Iron Man, Hulk, and the upcoming Thor and Captain America are all gorgeous films that take place in basic Marvel continuity. Bummer.

Still, we’re please to see Marvel’s merry mutants hitting the big screen once again. We think…

Check out the trailer and tell us what you think. Will you be seeing X-Men: First Class?

  • That’s NOT Pixie. That’s Angel Salvidor. She’s a fly girl, literary. She spits acid and has fly wings.

  • I dont think this movie looks that bad. Tho I was nervous when I saw screen, it cant get worse that Wolverine. To say that Beast doesnt belong is wrong as he is one of the founding members both in the movie and in the comics, as listed above that is Angel Salvatore (who still doesnt belong) not Pixie. Furthermore in multiple timelines Emma and Charles have a history together as well as Charles and Moira. The real worry I have with this movie is that they will try to introduce too much to explain too much right off the bat. My primary concern is Azazel…. though in is .2345678 second cameo he looks cool.

Honestly I was afraid with what they were going to do with an X-men origin story about Professor X & Magneto’s beginnings. And yes while it may not follow the original “First Class” comics we have to remember that we’ve been hit with storyline reboots for most of our beloved Marvel franchises when it comes to Hollywood. For those of us “purists” who grew up reading the true original comics (not the re-writes that have tried to re-introduce the Marvel universe to today’s youth) we have the comfort of the knowledge of how things really are and how they should have stayed. Still I have to admit that seeing Magneto don a more comic respective representation of his costume makes me just nerd-gasm!! LOL (he’s my favorite character) I won’t judge until I’ve seen the movie. So far it looks to at least be completely entertaining even if it isn’t going to follow the source material to a “T”. I don’t have any expectations so maybe I’ll be blown away on June 3rd? We’ll have to wait and see. No use complaining about something we have yet to see. We don’t have control over how these things are made unfortunately so we can take it or leave it.
