Saturday’s Burberry Runway Show in London Was an LGBTQ Game-Changer
Saturday’s Burberry fashion presentation at London Fashion Week was a celebration. The must-see show marked Christopher Bailey’s — he’s the President and Chief Operating Officer of Burberry — last collection for the iconic British label. This Burberry London Fashion week runway also came with a personal message from Bailey.
“My final collection here at Burberry is dedicated to — and in support of — some of the best and brightest organizations supporting LGBTQ youth around the world,” he says. “There has never been a more important time to say that in our diversity lies our strength and our creativity.”
Indeed, the Burberry London Fashion Week presentation featured the new Rainbow Check as an ode to the company’s heritage while personifying the pride of the LGBTQ community. From the first look of the show — a sporty pink cashmere hoodie with a rainbow-striped maxi skirt — to the last — a rainbow faux fur cape over a white gown — it was clear the new Rainbow Check was the key inspiration in this kaleidoscope collection.
Bailey also brought back the iconic Nova Check (with a hint of the Rainbow Check detail) in a huge way. From caps to outerwear jackets, this heritage look in new relaxed and sporty shapes feels relevant and fresh again. Many pieces from this Burberry London Fashion Week February collection are also unisex, a trend that reiterates the non-binary message currently huge in the fashion world.

Burberry also launched a February Capsule collection featuring some of the rainbow check products — from totes to sneakers — for avid fans.
And besides creating a colorful collection, Burberry is also making donations to three charities — the Albert Kennedy Trust; the Trevor Project; and ILGA, the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association — all of which aim to broaden awareness, mentor LGBTQ youth and make resources available to LGBTQ communities worldwide.
