Armie Hammer confirmed that the Call Me By Your Name sequel is still all systems go.

“It will happen because there are already people working on it and trying to make it happen,” Hammer told Variety at Toronto International Film Festival, where he’s busy promoting his new film Hotel Mumbai.

Director Luca Guadagnino has been vocal about a Call Me by Your Name sequel since the first was released in 2017. In the last chapter of André Aciman’s novel, which inspired the original movie, Oliver and Ellio reunite 15 years after their first tryst and Oliver is married with a wife and kids.

Guadagnino says his followup would take place in the early 1990s, less than a decade later, and would touch upon the AIDS epidemic raging at the time. Hammer didn’t reveal any additional details about the Call My By Your Name sequel.

“How much do I know and how much could I tell you are two very different things,” Hammer said. “I know a lot, but I can’t tell you anything.”

“More than anything I trust the artistic direction to Luca and André Aciman and to those guys who did such a good job handling it the first time around,” Hammer, who is now on Broadway in Straight White Men, added. “The only thing I want to see is I want to see it happen. I want to do it again.”

“I miss the whole crew,” he adds. “It was such a special time. It was such a collaborative, unique and totally immersive filming experience that I never really had, nor since. If we get to do another one, I’ll feel really lucky.”

Hammer still gets peach-themed gifts inspired by the film’s infamous sex scene, including a 110-pound bag of peach-flavored Haribo that a fan gave him for his birthday after a recent performance.

Don’t expect Armie Hammer or Timothée Chalamet to be a spokesman for the juicy fruit, though.

“I’m pretty sure the peach industry saw what we did to the peaches and was like, ‘We can’t go there,’” Hammer teased before offering an imaginary tagline. “Peaches — they’ve got a variety of uses.”

Guadagnino wants the sequel to come out in 2020 but is still figuring out how his protagonists will have evolved. “I don’t think Elio is necessarily going to become a gay man. He hasn’t found his place yet. I can tell you that I believe that he would start an intense relationship with Marzia [Esther Garrel’s character] again.”

Do you think a Call Me by Your Name sequel is a good idea?
