A couple of years ago Chick-fil-A announced it would stop donating funds to anti-LGBTQ groups. So is Chick-fil-A homophobic still? Well … yes.

You may not be shocked to learn that the fast food chain, known for its (frankly) mediocre chicken and history of donating to anti-LGBTQ organizations, is still a nightmare conservative establishment. Now the company is working with other Christian billionaires to crush the Equality Act. Lest we forget, mega-rich Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy has been showing his bigoted, unconscionable ass since 2012, when he was quoted on a radio show as saying:

“We’re inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say we know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage. And I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude that thinks we have the audacity to redefine what marriage is all about.”

Buddy, show me where in the Bible it says Be so creepily obsessed with other people’s sex and love lives that you make it your life’s mission to stop them from simply existing on top of being a second-rate Popeye’s, and I will eat my own arm.

Anyway, now Cathy and a bunch of other miserable cretins (Betsy DeVos, Hobby Lobby) have donated to the National Christian Charitable Foundation (NCF) — a disturbing organization hellbent on crushing the Equality Act, which if passed would prohibit discrimination against LGBTQ people under federal law.

The NCF is a donor-advised fund, which means donors will allocate funds to the organization and also recommend how these funds are used. More often than not, these “suggestions” are determinative. The NCF’s broad reach has allocated grants to some 63,000 nonprofits since its establishment in the early 1980s; and, of course, a number of these grantees are currently leading the push against the Equality Act.

In 2018, Chick-fil-A had the nerve to say claims that the brand is anti-gay are just “misperceptions.” And while Chick-fil-A did announce that it would stop giving money to anti-LGBTQ groups in 2019, its CEO, who continues to rake in millions thanks to chicken brined in pickle juice and fried in peanut oil (seriously, just learn to make it yourself) is very much still actively queerphobic. And as journalist Justin Kirkland reminds us, in cases like this “There’s no separating the business from the business owner.”

And Chick-fil-A’s 2021 score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index continues to be a big fat 0, with the chicken chain getting zero points for workplace protections, inclusive benefits, supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility. So, yeah, that makes Chick-fil-A homophobic AF.

The company has previously donated to places like the Salvation Army, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Paul Anderson Youth Home. The fast food chain has proven time and time again that it hates our community and doesn’t believe in our rights. It’s high time we all stop eating there, because there are at least 50 other fast food places that offer cheap chicken, and they essentially all taste the same.

Is Chick-fil-A homophobic still? Yes. Are we surprised? No.
