During the month of January 2022, Hornet users spent more than 22 million minutes watching livestreams, a growth of 400% since launch

West Hollywood, Calif., Feb. 15, 2022 — One hundred days since Hornet rolled out the launch of video livestreaming, users of the world’s queer social network are surpassing 8.5 million monthly livestream minutes, and more than 22 million monthly viewing minutes of in-app live videos. For years Hornet has redefined what a “queer app” can be, and Hornet Live has proven to be a popular content format among users, who now have an additional way to connect with each other and their community anytime, anywhere.

Doubling down on the success of ephemeral video stories that Hornet Networks saw upon launching Hornet Version 7 in October 2020, Hornet Live was launched and operated with ParshipMeet Group’s vPaaS (video Platform as a Service) technology. The partnership is ParshipMeet Group’s second app in the queer space since launching live video on GROWLr in April 2020.

Since launching Hornet Live for its 35 million worldwide users, Hornet has seen more than 200% growth in the number of in-app livestreams, nearly 400% growth in the amount of minutes streamed and livestream minutes viewed, and more than 400% growth in the number of chat messages sent during livestreams.

The biggest growth seen in these 100 days is also the most exciting: Awards sent among Hornet Live users is up more than 500%. In January 2022, a total of 200,000 paid gifts (of any denomination) were sent to Hornet Live streamers, worth a total of 2 million diamonds, Hornet Live’s digital currency.

Ándy, a Hornet Featured User based out of Moscow, has developed a following on the app due to his livestreams

“Hornet Live has been an exciting and fun new way for me to interact with Hornet users in real-time,” says Ándy, a user based out of Moscow, who became a Hornet Featured Users after quickly developing a fanbase for his in-app livestreams. “I enjoy ‘going live’ and chatting with people near me — and some people who are not so near me — about what’s going on in their lives. I think there are a lot of people who need an outlet like the one Hornet has created. And the fact that I’m able to make money while livestreaming is even better!”

“We’re thrilled to see LGBTQ influencers so rapidly embracing Hornet Live to connect with their community, while earning streaming revenue from fellow users’ gifts,” says Christof Wittig, Hornet’s founder and CEO. “For the first time, a livestreaming platform is designed solely to give us queer people a safe space to embrace our authentic selves, thus fighting back against shadow bans on heteronormative social media, reactionary governments, and haters trying to silence our voices.”

Hornet is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
