Breaking: Ivanka Trump Is Closing Her Fashion Brand to Focus on Work in Washington
Ivanka Trump, the daughter of U.S. President Donald Trump, has just announced that she will be shutting down her fashion business. The Wall Street Journal reports Ivanka “has grown frustrated by restrictions placed on the company to avoid conflicts of interest.” The Ivanka Trump fashion brand had faced accusations of copyright infringement and dropped by Nordstroms.
In a statement released to The Wall Street Journal, Ivanka said, “After 17 months in Washington, I do not know when or if I will ever return to the business, but I do know that my focus for the foreseeable future will be the work I am doing here in Washington. So making this decision now is the only fair outcome for my team and partners.”
Thus July, Hudson’s Bay dropped the Ivanka Trump fashion line from its retail offerings. Last year Nordstrom, Jet.com and Gilt all did the same, according to Business Insider. Her brand was also one of many Trump-related products boycotted by progressive activists in the ongoing #GrabYourWallet campaign.
Ivanka Trump’s clothing brand has been under fire a lot since her dad became President. First, Nordstrom dropped the brand. Its clothes started showing up in bargain bins across the country — sometimes even with her name removed. She’s been sued by a different company over her brand having an “unfair advantage” due to her famous father. And inspectors discovered a huge number of violations at the Chinese factory where her clothes are made.

In April 2017, investigators uncovered dozens of violations at a factory used by Ivanka Trump’s clothing-brand in China including making its workers work 60 hours a week to earn wages of little more than $62 a week, not training workers on machine safety and many other infringements.
