John Barrowman Is Livid Because Target Wouldn’t Let Him Help a Homeless Man
John Barrowman is angry, and rightfully so. In a video posted to Twitter last night, the actor calls out the West Hollywood Target for not letting him gift a homeless man with a shirt and jacket. In this John Barrowman Target video, he describes being scolded by the store’s staff for trying to help someone.
Barrowman says he bought a $40 gift certificate, jacket and shirt for a homeless person at the Target store at the West Hollywood Gateway shopping center. According to the video, Target employees told him he couldn’t.
“I was just lectured by the Target staff that I was not allowed to do that,” he says in the video. “Target, that’s a stupid rule. How dare you tell me, as a customer, who I am allowed to buy for and what I’m allowed to buy. That was a homeless gentleman who needed some help, and you need to change your policies if this is what you think of being a good community member.”
Barrowman continued, “I’m a little pissed off with you right now.”
The official Target Twitter account replied to Barrowman’s tweet, saying, “We’re very sorry for the experience you had at the LA Target store. We absolutely do not have a policy against this type of purchase, and are addressing it immediately with the team members involved. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.”
Though John Barrowman is best known for his role in Doctor Who and Torchwood as Captain Jack Harkness, and as Malcolm Merlyn in the CW’s Arrow and The Flash, the openly gay actor is also a renowned stage thespian, singer and writer. And now Barrowman can add “good human” to his list of descriptors.
