Hornet Partners With It Gets Better Project on ‘Queer Sex Ed’ Digital Content Series
Aimed at making sex ed inclusive and accessible for LGBTQ+ youth, the five-video series pairs sex educators with LGBTQ+ young people for frank, honest discussions on critical topics
West Hollywood, Calif., Oct. 20, 2022 — This week saw queer social network Hornet partner with the It Gets Better Project on a digital content series devoted to sex education and honest discussions about critical topics for LGBTQ+ youth. The five-video series — titled Queer Sex Ed, the first episode of which is live now — will be shared weekly with Hornet’s audience of more than 35 million users worldwide.
Queer Sex Ed features real people having candid conversations about the often embarrassing and misleading sex-ed misconceptions they had as kids, their real-life experiences and learnings as sexually active adults, and discussions with professional sex educators who provide context to the topics being discussed.
“This new series is a bold and intimate look into how folks within our community first learned about sex and dives into conversations that we normally have amongst our friend groups in private,” says Eboni Munn, the It Gets Better Project’s Director of Brand Marketing, Content & Creative. “What makes Queer Sex Ed so special is that it provides an in-depth look into the conversations happening in our living rooms or at our kitchen tables with close friends and it leaves takeaways for our viewers to ask questions and/or reignite conversations within their own circles.”
In addition to broadcasting the long-form video content series to its users, the Hornet team also worked to ensure the Queer Sex Ed series is accessible to as many LGBTQ+ users worldwide as possible, by translating the series into many of the app’s core languages.
“Partnering with Hornet to reach a global audience of LGBTQ+ people is incredibly important for this series,” says Ross von Metzke, the It Gets Better Project’s Director of Communications and PR. “Queer-inclusive sex ed is severely lacking in countries all over the world, and the more people we can reach with this series, the better.”
