Robyn Fans Have Waited Years For Her to #ReleaseHoneyDamnit, But the Wait Is Almost Over

Though Robyn is one of our favorite artists, we do wish she was a bit more prolific. (Of course, taking as long as she needs is why her work is so good.) But after a demo of “Honey” debuted in early 2017, anxious fans started calling on her via Twitter to #ReleaseHoneyDamnit. Thankfully that day is nearing: Today she announced the release date for the new Robyn album, Honey.

Our first glimpse of “Honey” was in a March 2017 episode of Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls. The song played during the ending credits of “Full Disclosure,” the episode in which Hannah (Dunham) reveals her pregnancy to Marnie (Allison Williams). The song appeared after Dunham, a huge fan of the Swedish pop star, reached out to Robyn and asked if she could put any new Robyn music in her show; Robyn sent a few in-process tracks, and Dunham picked “Honey.”

Of course, that taste of “Honey” was so sweet that fans clamored for Robyn to #ReleaseHoneyDamnit. But perfection can’t be rushed.

This February she announced the new Robyn album would be out “some time this year, honey.” And now we know that her use of “honey” wasn’t just a term of endearment to the fan who asked but also the title of the long-awaited album.

Honey is Robyn’s first new solo album in eight years. The hit album Body Talk came out in 2010, and though she’s done a few collaborations and remix releases since then, the world has been waiting for Robyn to return.

This summer she gave us our first look at the new Robyn album with the single “Missing U,” which came bundled with a short documentary about New York’s “This Party Is Killing You,” a queer nightlife extravaganza devoted to Robyn’s music.

But it’s been only today that Robyn announced the new album’s release date of Oct. 26. The album isn’t yet available for pre-order, but fans can sign up on her website to be notified when it’s available.

Robyn says the new album is “this sweet place, like a very soft ecstasy. Something that’s so sensual, and so good. I danced a lot when I was making it. I found a sensuality and a softness that I don’t think I was able to use in the same way before. Everything just became softer.”

Sounds good to us!
