Over the long weekend, Marvel’s newest contribution to the MCU, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, broke Labor Day box office records. It became the highest-grossing film ever for the four-day weekend, and the second highest-grossing film during the COVID era — despite the fact that it was released exclusively in theaters. Basically, it’s a must-see. But, as an added bonus, we there was also a fun Lil Nas X MCU revelation we can’t stop thinking about.

Shang-Chi confirmed a delightful little detail about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its canon: our favorite queer artist of the moment, Lil Nas X, is not only officially a part of the MCU, but he survived “The Snap.”

For those of you who have waited until the year 2021 to watch either The Avengers: Infinity War or The Avengers: Endgame and are currently lost, I don’t know what to tell you. For everyone else, Redditor u/LegendofConner made this post to point out a fun little Lil Nas X MCU detail and enrich our understanding of the Marvel films:

“Idk if somebody’s already pointed this out, but since this movie was obviously set in 2023, and the snap happened in 2018, Lil Nas X had to have survived. Why? Because Shang-Chi and [Katy] were doing karaoke to Old Town Road, which came out in 2019, after the snap. Lil Nas had to have survived to make the song.

Idk, just thought it was a cool detail, I love adding to the [canon] of who got snapped and who didn’t.”

Times were tough enough for everyone in the MCU post-Snap — so we’re happy they at least got to keep the absolute gem that is Lil Nas X.

Have you seen Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings yet? What do you think of this Lil Nas X MCU revelation?
