Everyone Gets Wet in the First Trailer for Courtney Act’s New Bisexual Dating Show
On Oct. 25, E! UK & Ireland will unveil a 10-part bisexual reality dating series called The Bi Life hosted by Shane Jenek — the Australian entertainer better known as drag queen Courtney Act, one of the top three competitors from Season 6 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. We just got a look at the first trailer for the bisexual dating show, and it features a bunch of men and women in white clothes feeling each other up and getting splattered in pink, blue and purple: the colors of the bisexual flag.
The series will follow a cast of bi and pansexual single British people dating and looking for love in Barcelona, Spain. The trailer for The Bi Life also features the song “Color” by MNEK, an openly gay English pop musician.
Why The Bi Life is groundbreaking TV in the making
The Bi Life isn’t the first ever bisexual dating show. In May 2018, students from the Australian Film Television and Radio School released What’s Your Flava? onto YouTube. That webseries was a combination cooking-and-dating show in which young bi Australians hosted other bi people over for dinner.
Nevertheless, The Bi Life is certainly the first bisexual dating show ever to appear on a major cable network, and that’s a big deal considering that only 26 to 33% of all LGBTQ characters on American network, cable and streaming services are openly bisexual, according to GLAAD’s most recent count of queer TV characters.
Here’s the trailer for The Bi Life:
Jenek, who is also bisexual, says, “It’s high time there was a dating show for the large number of young people today, like me, who are attracted to more than one gender.”
